Passionate about supporting the region’s younger generation, we are delighted to be sponsoring Cambridgeshire’s Young People of the Year (YOPEY) for the second consecutive year. YOPEY events are held annually in counties throughout the UK. They aim to reveal, recognise and reward young heroes, highlighting young people aged from 10 to 25 who are actively doing positive things in their region, recognising them publicly, and rewarding the very best.
The award winners can then become positive role models (PRMs) and inspire younger generations to make better choices as they grow up. Entries for YOPEY come from all backgrounds and from a diverse range of organisations, from schools, sports clubs, youth organisations to charities and churches. Some people enter themselves or are nominated by their families and friends. From providing paid three month internship to graduates, taking part in careers advice events at local Cambridgeshire colleges, through to sponsoring events such as YOPEY, KISS takes an active part in offering young people opportunities for personal growth and achievements.
Our CEO, Simon Fryer said: “Young people are doing fantastic things on a daily basis but are often the unsung heroes in our community. It’s tough for this generation and the pressures they face can be very challenging.
"The YOPEY awards provide a great way of recognising the incredible efforts of the young people in our community. From fundraising, volunteering, caring for loved ones to simply inspiring others, the awards are an excellent way of rewarding young people for their achievements and critically helping to motivate others to show what can be done with the right mind set.”
Tony Gearing, founder of YOPEY said: “This is our tenth year of YOPEYs. Particularly in Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, where we started, YOPEY is well established as the way to give young people who give to the community the recognition they deserve. Our YOPEY winners are also role models for the younger generation becoming good citizens.
“We are truly grateful to KISS and all our other sponsors and donors for enabling us to do this.”
As one of the region’s top marketing agencies and as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we support a number of community-based initiatives, including Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, the Herts Chamber of Commerce, Inspiring Herts Awards 2014, Vivo D’Arte, Social Enterprise East of England (SEEE), and The Muscle Help Foundation.
The Cambs Young Person of the Year will win £800, from which they will keep £400 and £400 will go to their good cause. The second place will win £400, shared similarly. Other YOPEY sponsors include Cambridge Regional College, Hutchinsons, LifePlus, ARM, Cambridge Assessment, G’s, Building Services Design, Stratagem and TTP Group.
